National Institute for Materials Science (NIMS) will launch a five-year project entitled "International Center for Young Scientists (ICYS)" in August 2003, under which excellent and highly motivated young scientists from all over the world will be appointed as independent fellows to carry out basic research in materials science under a new and unique research system.
I will be a director of the ICYS.
I am looking for about 30 young and excellent post-doctor fellows from your groups and also your university. In this position, the salary is higher than other
positions in NIMS and ICYS fellows can carry out their researches based on
their own idea using NIMS facilities (no leader). Therefore, I request you to recommend outstanding young esearchers to apply this new positions.

ICYS Fellowships Available
Research fields: 1) Nano-electronics and nano-biology
2) Nano-materials, nano-characterization and calculation
3) Polymers, ceramics, metals and their composites
Conditions: The ICYS fellowship provides an annual stipend between 6
million yen and 15 million yen commensurate with fellow's qualifications and
experience. Each contract will be renewed every year after reviewing
his/her performance. The ICYS fellows will receive a research grant of at least 5
million yen per year.The end of the project will be March 2008.
Eligibility: All applicants must have obtained a Ph.D. degree within the
past ten years.
Appointment: Oct 1, 2003 or later
Application: Applicants should submit an Application Form with a curriculum vitae and a list of publications. Research proposal on an interdisciplinary or integrated area of the above research fields is highly anticipated. The Application Form ( MS-Word / PDF ) must be sent no later than Aug. 30, 2003
