Research Scientist, Chemistry (Ph.D. or Master degree)

Overview
The Department of Nuclear Medicine at Asan Medical Center invites applications for a synthetic chemistry researcher having master or Ph.D. degree in Chemistry. This position will work with Professor Seung Jun Oh on a grant-funded project. The project is focused on developing diagnostic and therapeutic radiopharmaceuticals for targeting brain diseases and cancer treatment. Furthermore, the lab aims to develop novel polymer-based nanomaterials for drug delivery and biomedical applications. The researcher will mainly work on synthesis of organic compounds and polymers for biomedical applications. The researcher will work independently and summarize data findings for dissemination. The candidate must be eligible to work in South Korea at the time employment begins and to continue working legally for the proposed term of employment. The appointment is for one year and may be extended pending regular progress evaluation. The position will work closely with other Ph.D. staffs and assist in general laboratory management. Duties and Responsibilities
1. Conduct organic synthesis and polymerization
2. Perform experiments and troubleshooting as per established schedules
3. Prepare various biomedical platforms such as micelles, gels, fibers, films and scaffolds
4. Excellent communication and writing skills in English language
5. Maintain legible and complete records of all experiment results, instrument readings and observations
6. Analyze data, organize results, write lab notes and prepare manuscript
7. Collaboration with other scientists in the planning, analysis, realization and interpretation of experiments
8. Performs other duties as delegated

Qualifications
The candidate should have a strong background in organic and/or polymer chemistry and be familiar with designing, synthesis and characterizing materials for biomedical applications. A basic understanding of biomaterials design, organic chemistry, and polymerization will be required. Experience in organic/polymer synthesis (ATRP, ARGET, ROP, RAFT techniques are preferred) and characterization would be a bonus.

Preferred Qualifications
PhD, with 0-5 years or M.Sc. with 2-5 years of relevant laboratory experience in chemistry, chemical engineering, materials science/engineering or related field; strong technical expertise and demonstrated independence in the design and execution of experiments. The ideal candidate will have excellent oral and written skills, demonstrated publication record, ability to work in a cross-department team skills.
